What is 988 Day?
988 Day is observed annually on September 8 to raise awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and encourage conversations about mental health and suicide prevention.
The first 988 Day was held on September 8, 2024, two years after the nationwide launch of 988. The observance provides an opportunity for communities and organizations across the country to increase awareness of 988 and help more people know where to turn when they or someone they care about needs support.
September 8 was intentionally chosen as 9/8, a simple connection to the three digit number 988 to call or text for free, confidential mental health support 24/7.
