Racing has another truth it never hides: nobody runs the whole race alone.
Even the most talented driver needs a pit crew – people who refuel, reset, and bring calm when pressure rises. That’s not weakness. That’s strength and also how the racing works.
Mental health works like that too.
A lot of people in our world were taught to handle everything privately. Push through. Stay quiet. Keep moving. That mindset looks strong – until you realize how heavy it gets when you carry it for years.
Real Talk says this plainly: Human beings need support. And Community makes it possible.
Here’s the Pit Crew Rule we live by at Race to Stop Suicide:
1) Showing up beats having perfect words
You never need a speech. You never need a diagnosis. You never need to “fix” someone.
You need presence. Consistency. Care.
A text that says, “Thinking about you.”
A call that says, “I’m here to listen.”
A smile that says, “You matter here.”
2) Support happens before crisis
Many people wait because they assume support is only for emergencies or for someone else. That’s like pulling into the pits only after the tires blow.
Support works best early: check-ins, connection, and help that arrives before someone hits the wall.
988 exists for those moments too – when you’re overwhelmed, in distress, or worried about someone else. It’s free, confidential, and available 24/7 by call, text, or chat.
3) Community creates visible hope
That’s why we bring suicide prevention into racing spaces. A banner can start a conversation. A wristband can quietly signal, “You’re safe with me”, and a Race to Stop Suicide wrapped race car can be the moment that helps someone finally speak after being silent for far too long.
4) Engagement makes the mission real
If you’re reading this, you’re already part of the movement. Now it’s about the next step:
• Join the Team: Support the community.
• Share your story: Story booth is opening soon.
• Request a Track Banner: Leaders in the Race to Stop Suicide.
• Donate: Fuel the Work.
Nobody carries the whole race alone.
Not on the track. Not in life.
If you need support now, call or text 988 (or use chat). Free. Confidential. 24/7.
